The regular average monthly wage stood at NT$36,650 (US$1,110) in the first eight months of this year, marking a 1.75 percent rise year-on-year, a Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics official said yesterday.

The increase was the highest in nearly seven years, he said.

Regular wage refers to the base pay, including holiday pay, vacation pay and sick time pay, but excluding overtime pay and irregular bonus pay.

The official said the number of employees in the industrial and service sectors totaled 6.166 million in August, an increase of more than 10,000 in July and more than 94,000 a year ago.

The number of employees in the first eight months averaged 6.161 million, marking a 96,000 rise year-on-year, or the fourth-highest level in nearly seven years, he said.

The average wage in August was NT$42,124, up 0.06 percent from July. The average wage in the first eight months was NT$46,646, up 1.84 percent year-on-year, he said.

The average number of working hours in August stood at 192.6, up 4.2 hours from July but down 0.2 hours from the same month last year, the official said.
