    Stocks near seven-year high
Shares closed 1.25 percent higher yesterday at a near seven-year high as sentiment turned bullish following a rebound on Wall Street overnight due to an easing in US bond yields and better-than-expected economic data, dealers said.
The TAIEX closed up 104.33 points at 8,450.72 on turnover of NT$147.29 billion (US$4.46 billion).
The New Taiwan dollar remained weak against its US counterpart, closing NT$0.046 lower at NT$33.085 on the Taipei Forex Inc. Turnover was US$734 million.

    EVA looking up
EVA Airways Corp (長榮航空) yesterday said it saw an opportunity to reverse previous losses to post a profit in the second half of this year.
EVA president Peter Chen (陳欣德) attributed the possibility to "fleet adjustments and contribution from the peak season in the third quarter to September."
The carrier posted a net loss of NT$331.30 million (US$10 million) for the first quarter of this year, after registering a net loss of NT$1.69 billion last year.

    Cebu Pacific launches
Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air Inc, a unit of Philippine conglomerate JG Summit Holdings Inc, launched its daily Taipei-Manila flight on Wednesday. The Philippine carrier will offer one flight departing from Taipei and one from Manila each day at NT$1,388 (US$42) one way, according to a company official.
The airline offered one-way tickets at NT$588 for the first week of the launch. They are already sold out, he said.
