Affected by real estate fluctuations and financial scandals, consumer sentiment this month dropped to a new low with six sub-indices all showing declines, according to a report released by National Central University yesterday.
The consumer confidence index (CCI) this month slid 1.02 percentage points from last month to 67.43, the lowest level since December 2001, the university's Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development report said.
A CCI figure of less than 100 points indicates the public is pessimistic about the outlook for the next six months, while a score of between 100 and 200 demonstrates optimism, the center said.
Among the sub-indices, public confidence in purchasing durable goods such as houses and automobiles showed the biggest decline.
