Honda's Civic, CR-V and Accord models, as well as Toyota's Vios and Previa, are among the most appealing cars on the market, a survey said yesterday.

The latest Honda Civic, which scored 833 points on a 1,000-point scale, was rated the best midsize car in the "2006 Taiwan Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study."

The Accord, with 830 points, was the most popular in the highly competitive premium midsize segment, while the CR-V scored 784 points to lead the sports utility segment.

Now in its ninth year, the survey is conducted by J.D. Power Asia Pacific and interviews car owners about what excites and delights them about their vehicles' performance and design during the first two to six months of ownership.

In the entry-level midsize segment, Toyota Vios ranked highest with 789 points, while the Toyota Previa scored 817 points in the multi-purpose vehicle segment.

The Lexus ES, which dominated the luxury class with 912 points, set the benchmark with the highest score across all vehicle segments.

The Lexus ES also received the highest ratings from customers across all factors that determine overall satisfaction, the survey said.

The survey, which rated 47 different models from 13 different manufacturers, was based on evaluations from more than 9,000 owners who purchased a new car between March and July last year.
