IT Month offering high-tech bargains

By Jason Tan  /  STAFF REPORTER

Consumers with limited budgets hunting for a good bargain may find tempting deals at the IT Month opening today.

IT Month -- the largest expo of the year for consumers looking for the latest technology in computers, communications and consumer electronics products -- opens its doors today at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall I and III and will run until next Sunday.

For vendors, the expo is an important outlet to clear out inventories in the last quarter of the year.

Organizers said consumers would therefore find a handful of discounts and freebies at the expo.

Promotions would include the Xbox 360 game console, high-resolution digital cameras, laptops running on the 32-bit Napa-platform and the latest MP3 players and handsets, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA, 台北市電腦公會) said.

The expo is open from 10am to 6pm and admission is free. Huge crowds are expected during the weekends and the total turnover should reach 750,000, the TCA said.

The scale of the show is similar to last year's, with around 350 vendors occupying over 1,700 booths, it added.

"We expect the show will benefit from the delayed purchase sentiment in the first half of the year," said Enoch Du (杜全昌), the TCA's secretary-general.

Similar exhibitions will be held in Taichung and Kaohsiung later this month as part of the month-long activity.
