Taiwan delegation seeking high-tech talent in the US

A talent-seeking mission from Taiwan led by Minister-without-Portfolio Lin Ferng-cheng (林逢慶) organized a fair on Saturday in Silicon Valley to recruit high technology and management talent to work in Taiwan.

Lin said that Taiwan needs more overseas professionals to participate in a project aimed at building the country into an "innovation, research and development center in the Asia-Pacific region" by 2008.

This year is the fourth consecutive year that Taiwan has sent a delegation to the US to look for high-tech personnel, Lin said, adding that Silicon Valley has been one of the major legs over the past four years.

Following Silicon Valley, the delegation, organized by the Science and Technology Advisory Group, the National Science Council and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, will continue its trip to Los Angeles, Boston and New York, according to Lin.

The mission, made up of government officials and representatives from several academic institutions and leading high-tech businesses is planning to provide 1,500 jobs for those wishing to work in Taiwan.
