Taiwan has the world's sixth-best business environment, following Switzerland, Singapore, the Netherlands, Japan and Norway, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday, citing a report released by US-based research institute Business Environment Risk Intelligence (BERI).
The report is the second business risk evaluation BERI has released this year.
Taiwan was given 72 points in profit opportunity recommendation and ranked No. 6 in the latest report, the same position in BERI's last report, the ministry said.
In the composite score, Taiwan got 72 points in the operations risk index, 60 points in the political risk index, and 84 points in the remittance and repatriation factor, the ministry said.
The nation's score is in the highest and low-risk 1A rating category, representing a country with a favorable investment environment that BERI recommends for foreign investors.
In Asia, Taiwan was the third-best country in terms of foreign investment climate, second only to Singapore and Japan.
BERI predicted that Taiwan would continue to improve its business environment, with the political tension to ease in the next five years.
The company forecast that the nation's composite score would rise to 73 points next year and 74 points in 2011, with the ranking rising to No. 5, the ministry said.
