Land Bank chair to head bankers group

Banking veteran Tsai Jer-shyong (蔡哲雄), who also serves as chairman of the state-run Land Bank of Taiwan (土地銀行), was selected as chair of the Bankers Association (銀行公會) as expected, securing a majority of votes yesterday, the association said.

Tsai takes over from Cheng Shen-chih (鄭深池), chairman of Mega Financial Holding Co (兆豐金控), who resigned because he does not serve as chairman of the company's banking arm, Mega International Commercial Bank (兆豐國際商銀).

Tsai gained the chairmanship over main rival Sean Chen (陳沖), chairman of Taiwan Cooperative Bank (合作金庫銀行), by winning 13 out of 19 votes from the board members, the association said.

Other candidates were the association's other managing board directors, Gregory Wang (汪國華), chairman of Cathay United Bank (國泰世華銀行), Lin Ming-cheng (林明成), chairman of Hua Nan Financial Holding Co (華南金控), and Huang Yung-jen (黃永仁), chairman of E. Sun Financial Holding Co (玉山金控).
