Matsushita Electric Industrial Co, the world's largest consumer electronics maker, said it filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Taipei-based CMC Magnetics Corp (中環) in a US district court.
Matsushita had been negotiating to license certain patents to CMC, the world's biggest maker of recordable discs used in DVD players, since 2004, the Osaka-based said in a statement late on Wednesday.
A CMC spokeswoman couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Matsushita spokesman Jim Reilly didn't immediately return a telephone message to his office after business hours.
Last year, CMC had sales of NT$33.4 billion (US$1.02 billion), up from NT$30.2 billion in 2004, according to Bloomberg data.
The claim was filed in the US district court for California's northern district.
