Consumers who want to stay abreast of the latest computer and electronics products might want to visit this year's IT Month expo, which showcases the latest products as well as those that will hit the market within the next three months.
This year, notebooks are still taking center stage at the fair, where 350 vendors are occupying 1,765 booths.
LG notebooks
LG Electronics Inc is displaying a series of notebook computers, which will be the South Korean firm's first batch of laptops officially hitting local stores late next month.
"We have been focusing on the home appliances segment since we moved into the Taiwanese market in 2002. Now the timing is right for us to bring in our laptop products," said Peter Lo (
LG is exhibiting six models based on the company's Sonoma platform.
The notebooks have screens ranging from 12 to 17 inches and are priced starting from NT$40,000.
A large number of vendors are promoting digital cameras with resolutions of five megapixels and above.
"We stopped offering cameras below five megapixels in August, as customers now pursue higher resolutions for finer picture quality," said Chan Liang-yu (詹樑裕), a manager with Sony Taiwan Ltd.
The company is promoting the DSC-N1, an eight-megapixel digital camera that was launched last month.
Boasting a 3-inch screen, the latest model comes with an optical zoom feature and weighs just 151 grams without the lithium battery.
While most cameras on the market have a 2.5-inch screen, Sony and Sanyo Electric Co are offering larger screens, Chan said.
Priced at NT$16,980, the DSC-N1 has a touch-screen which enables users to easily set the camera's controls, he said.
MP3 camera
For MP3 enthusiasts, the YP-D1 from Samsung Electronics Co offers a different option, as it boasts a built-in two megapixel camera with a digital zoom function.
The music player, which will hit the shelves early next month, is equipped with a 1.8-inch color screen and offers playback time of up to 20 hours. It also has FM radio and voice recording functions.
The 1GB model will retail at NT$9,900, while the price for the 2GB model is yet to be finalized.
The IT Month exhibition is being held in the Taipei World Trade Center's Exhibition Halls I and III. The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm, with free admission to the public, and runs through Sunday.
