What is claimed to be the largest shopping mall in Taipei County will open in early December, targeting 1.42 million residents in four nearby cities -- Banciao, Jhonghe, Yonghe and Tucheng.
Kindom Construction Corp's (冠德建設) Global Mall (環球購物中心), located near the Banciao Train Station, includes 24,000-ping (79,200m2) of space and a 900-ping park facility.
"We have very clear positioning. We are not competing against other players' Ferris wheels or branded, high-scale products. Global Mall is a community-oriented mall that will meet customers' daily needs, from food, clothes and household items to recreation," Timothy Ma (
The briefing was held to launch the mall's co-brand credit cards with Union Bank of Taiwan (聯邦銀行). Bank president Lee Shian-chang (李憲章) vowed to issue 200,000 cards within two years.
Aiming to create an "easy new lifestyle" for Taipei County residents, Ma said his company turned to the management know-how of Japan's biggest retailer, Aeon Group, to oversee mall operations.
Kingdom has invested NT$6.6 billion (US$198 million) in the mall.
The Jusco department store, under the Aeon Group, will occupy 25 percent of the mall.
Ma said he's confident the mall will reach the goal of NT$5 billion in annual sales.
