Hon Hai sets single-month sales record

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), Taiwan's largest electronics manufacturer by sales, which also boasts the title of No. 1 electronics manufacturer worldwide, recorded sales of NT$68.16 billion (US$2.05 billion) for September, setting a single-month record for any listed company in Taiwan.

Hon Hai makes a wide range of electronic products both under its own trade name Foxconn (富士康) and for such companies as Apple Computer Inc, Cisco Systems Inc, Dell Inc, Nokia Oyj and Sony Corp.

In a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange on Friday, the company said its sales last month rose 34.16 percent over August's NT$50.7 billion and surged 65.4 percent from NT$41.1 billion in September last year.

For the first nine months of this year, Hon Hai's revenues totaled NT$440.7 billion, representing an increase of 59.32 percent over the same period last year and surpassing its entire revenue of NT$421.67 billion for last year.

Most of Hon Hai's factories are in China, with others in Czechoslovakia, Hungary and other countries.

Quanta Computer Inc (廣達電腦), the world's biggest notebook computer maker, also reported that last month's sales rose 21 percent to NT$37 billion from NT$30.6 billion a year earlier and was up 6.63 percent from NT$34.7 billion in August.

Rival Compal Electronics Inc (仁寶電腦), however, saw sales fall 3.2 percent last month to NT$18.3 billion from NT$18.9 billion in September last year.
