    Corning Inc to build plant
Corning Inc, the world's largest maker of liquid-crystal display glass for televisions and computers, said its board approved an additional US$425 million in spending to expand a plant in Taichung. Most of the money will be spent in 2006 and 2007. Corning is expanding the plant to meet increased demand for liquid-crystal screens, and to produce more glass panels for computer monitors and make larger panels needed for televisions.

    Investing restrictions may relax
Taiwan may relax investment restrictions on life insurers and fund management companies, Premier Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) said. Considering relaxing the regulations is part of the government's efforts to spur the nation's economic growth and bolster its stock market, he said. The government may also provide initiatives to encourage life insurers and funds to invest in domestic capital markets, Hsieh said.
