Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦) aims to sell 700,000 notebook PCs under its own brand in the Asia-Pacific region this year, up from 340,000 last year, the DigiTimes reported yesterday on its Web site, citing Benson Lin (林宗樑), the president of Asustek's Asia-Pacific division.
The company shipped around 115,000 notebooks in the Asia-Pacific region during the first quarter of the year, up 101.76 percent from 57,000 units a year earlier, Lin said in the DigiTimes report, citing statistics provided by an International Data Corp study.
The company, which is the nation's largest motherboard maker, grabbed a 6.2 percent market share in the region during the first three months of the year, ranking it seventh in terms of shipments, the DigiTimes said.
Asustek, which had a market share of 5.5 percent for notebook PCs in the Asia-Pacific region last year, will set up maintenance centers in the area and also aims to explore the Indian market this year, Lin said.
Domestically, the company sold 45,000 notebooks in the second quarter, up 23 percent from the first, enabling Asustek to remain the top brand locally, a Chinese-language newspaper reported yesterday, also citing Lin.
