With a wide array of the latest games to dazzle arcade goers, the Game Time International (GTI) Expo, one of Asia's largest electronic game shows, will begin in Taipei tomorrow with the hope of attracting a record number of visitors, organizers said yesterday.
"I believe the booming electronic gaming industry will bring more business opportunities for local companies," Thomas Liu (
The show will run through Sunday at Hall I of the Taipei World Trade Center but is only open to the public on Sunday.
The show features 900 booths, a 38 percent jump from a year ago and the highest in the past 12 years. It is expected to draw 2,000 buyers, double the number last year, from more than 50 countries, Liu said.
Exhibitors will display a variety of games that will hit arcades soon, including sports, gunplay, slots, music, horse or motorcycle riding, car racing and post-it photo booths.
Taiwan is the largest exporter of electronic games, with an output value of about NT$4 billion last year, and the number will keep rising as gaming entertainment facilities integrating multimedia technology are gaining popularity worldwide, said Huang Guo-jun (
To help keep the sector growing, the government has classified electronic gaming as part of the digital content industry, which provides incentives for gaming companies, Huang said.
These games provide good leisure entertainment that can stimulate intelligence with proper care,"he said.
