Stylish and highly functional electronic gadgets are set to dazzle visitors during the four-day multimedia trade show in Taipei that opens tomorrow, organizers said yesterday.
Around 100 exhibitors will have booths at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall I to showcase their latest digital products and interesting multimedia appliances, the organizers said.
"We expect that high-end laptop computers, digital cameras, MP3 and MP4 players, super-sized liquid-crystal-display (LCD) and plasma TVs will steal the limelight this year," James Parng (
"The number of visitors should rise by 10 percent from last year to reach 200,000," he said.
With an eye on shaking up the MP3 market, local distributor Chicony Electronics Co (群光電子) will launch Mickey Mouse-shaped music players which can store up to 256MB, 512MB or 1 gigabyte of data.
The 32-gram players, equipped with 1.1-inch screens and offering 10 languages, will retail at between NT$3,190 (US$103) and NT$5,490 each depending on storage size.
Although no discounts will be offered at the expo, Chicony Electronics will be giving away Mickey Mouse dolls to early buyers.
Continuing their rivalry for the more well-heeled buyers, Acer Inc and Asustek Computer Inc (華碩), will roll out their premium laptops from the Ferrari and W5 series.
Acer's Ferrari 4000 laptops claim to use ultralight but strengthened carbon-fiber material, complete with a streamlined outer design.
The model, equipped with a 15.4-inch thin-film-transistor monitor and the Turion 64 processor from Advanced Micro Devices Inc, weighs 2.86kg and retails for NT$67,900.
Asustek's W5000A laptop was designed to emulate fashionable handbags and comes equipped with a 1.3-megapixel Webcam that can rotate 180 degrees.
With a built-in CD burner, the 12.1-inch-monitor model is priced at NT$59,800.
