Asian markets show gains despite bad news

BOUNCE-BACK China's markets led the way amid cautiously optimistic sentiment in the region, in spite of soaring oil prices and sagging business confidence in Japan

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A- and B-shares, rose 42.33 points or 3.58 percent at 1,223.57.

Australian share prices closed 0.69 percent higher as bargain hunters snapped up stocks following recent losses, dealers said.

The benchmark SP/ASX 200 closed up 28.4 points at 4,138.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 25.7 points at 4,126.4.
