Together with Taikoo Motors Ltd (太古汽車), Volkswagen AG yesterday unveiled a range of commercial vehicles for the domestic market.

The new products are extremely sophisticated and have been designed to comply with the highest safety and quality standards, said Hans-Heiner Tueting, Volkswagen's worldwide sales director.

The range of commercial vehicles will appeal to sophisticated demands in the high-end segment of the market, he said.

Taikoo Motors managing director Kenny Tang (鄧國杰) said that Volkswagen AG, based in Hanover, Germany, has appointed Taikoo Motors as the sole importer of Volkswagen commercial vehicles to Taiwan.

Volkswagen commercial vehicles and Volkswagen passenger cars are two independent brands. The commercial-vehicle product line includes a high-end passenger vehicle, an innovative motor home, multi-functional vehicles and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

All vehicles can be tailored to customers' different needs, such as ambulances or security vehicles, Tang said.

The prices of Volkswagen's commercial vehicles range from NT$500,000 (US$16,000) for its modern pick-up to NT$7 million for tailor-made luxury commercial vehicles, Taikoo Motors director Jack Lin (林欽松) said.
