Cross-strait trade grows 25 percent from last year

Trade between China and Taiwan is expected to exceed US$50 billion this year, up 25 percent from last year, Chinese state media said yesterday.

Trade hit US$46.63 billion during the first 10 months of this year, up 29.4 percent year on year, a leading official from the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Department of the Ministry of Commerce was cited by the Xinhua news agency as saying.

Trade volume for the 10-month period included US$7.04 billion in exports from China to Taiwan, up 33.5 percent, and US$39.59 billion in imports from Taiwan to China, up 28.7 percent.

China had a trade deficit of US$32.5 billion, the ministry said.

Beijing had also approved 3,664 investment projects from Taiwan with a contractual volume of US$6.6 billion, an increase of 21.6 percent from the same period last year, Xinhua said.

Actual investment during the period stood at US$2.7 billion.
