Group formed to push `digital homes'

But for household name Tatung, the digital home marketing strategy will be more complex as the line between home appliance and consumer electronics blurs.

"We'll focus on producing flat-screen televisions and media center computers with other peripheral products to get the whole system connected," said executive vice president Lin Kuo Wen-yen (林郭文豔).

Acer is among the first to launch a range of digital home products, but other companies will have to move quickly to get a slice of the digital market next year.

"Time is short as we want products on the market by the second half of next year," Intel's Chen said. "If you consider the product development cycle, you need to be working on digital home products now."
