Sony currently provides over 1,000 game titles, while Microsoft only comes up with 40 titles available in Europe, 65 in the US and more than 150 in Asia by the end of the year.
Microsoft may be hoping that in the Xbox Live online service will boost the demand for its gaming consoles.
The company started offering Xbox Live in Japan in July and plans to offer it in Taiwan in the first half of next year. At present, Sony has no specific timetable for developing online gaming, and Nintendo has no interest in the sector.
"I believe with interactive feature, surround sound effect and user-friendly devices, we'll take the lead in the online gaming sector over our two major competitors," Bowman said.
