UK to hold three seminars in Taiwan

The British Trade and Cultural Office plans to host three seminars on technology and agriculture in Taiwan next week, statements from the office said yesterday.

On Monday, the Earl of Selborne will lead a five-day mission here to promote closer co-operation between the British and Taiwanese agricultural sectors. The program includes a seminar on organic food, WTO issues, food safety and hog breeding.

The seminar is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Taipei, and on Thursday Nov. 27 it will be held in Tainan. The seminar is co-organized by the Council of Agricultural Affairs and the Chung Hua Institute for Economic Research, and is open to the public free of charge.

Also on Tuesday Nov. 25, Britain's high-technology sector will share experiences in Hsinchu. In the first of two seminars, three experts from the UK will discuss ecological issues related to the manufacture of electronics, and will offer advice on new environmental regulations in the EU coming into effect in 2005 that require stricter manufacturing-waste control from all importers.

At the second seminar in Hsinchu, on Tuesday afternoon, four British chip-design experts will discuss developments in wireless radio-frequency transceivers for mobile phones and power amplifiers for mobile communication among other subjects. Interested parties should register in advance with the BTCO.
