Japan's major electronics makers, including Matsushita Electric Industrial Co and Sony Corp, will boost output of flat-panel television sets overseas to meet growing demand, a daily said yesterday.
Matsushita will begin making plasma television sets at a plant in Pilsen, the Czech Republic, in April, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said.
The company will invest ?400 million (US$3.7 million) in the project, with a plan to assemble 200,000 units per year for sale in Europe, the business daily said.
Matsushita now produces 300,000 units per year overseas.
The latest move came after the Czech Republic's admission into the EU in May, which will eliminate import tariffs between the country and other EU nations.
