Taiwan Semiconductor Manufac-turing Co (TSMC, 台積電) yesterday reported record sales of NT$20.3 billion (US$597.06 million) last month due to higher wafer shipments.
TSMC's sales last month jumped 33.3 percent from NT$15.23 billion a year ago and were 7.4 percent higher from NT$18.91 billion in September, the company said.
"The company's October wafer shipments grew over September due to increased customer demand in anticipation of the Christmas holiday season, especially for consumer and communication products," the statement quoted Lora Ho (
In the first 10 months this year, the company's sales rose to NT$164.43 billion from NT$135.04 billion in the year-earlier period, TSMC said.
As of late last month, TSMC expected wafer shipments in the fourth quarter to next month to grow by mid-to-high single digit percentage points from the third.
The company shipped 992,000 eight-inch-equivalent wafers in the third quarter, up 12 percent from the previous quarter, it said.
United Microelectronics Corp (聯電) also reported yesterday a 27.17 percent year-on-year increase in sales last month to NT$7.67 billion (US$225.59 million). The figure is higher than the NT$7.52 billion posted for September.
