Indications are that the chip industry is seeing a gradual turnaround. After falling by more than 31 percent in 2001, global semiconductor revenues grew by a mere 1.9 percent last year to around US$150 billion, according to Gartner statistics.
Yesterday Gartner reported that revenues will see much stronger growth of over 11 percent this year, increasing to 21 percent next year as a full recovery kicks in.
In the second quarter of this year, chip sales reached US$37.6 billion, up 3.2 percent from US$36.4 billion in the first quarter, and up 10.4 percent from US$34.1 billion recorded in the same period last year, a recent Semiconductor Industry Association report said.
