TSMC's quarterly profit grows by 26%

SALES FORECAST The company is the latest chipmaker to predict an end to a three-year slump in demand and its second-quarter numbers give good cause for optimism

The company's second-quarter profit was its highest since the fourth quarter of 2000, when it made a record NT$21.5 billion. Global semiconductor sales plunged by a third in 2001, and barely rose last year.
