Airlines want airport fees cut further

FEELING THE STRAIN Despite continued profitability, Taiwan-based airlines are pressuring the government to provide them with all manner of financial benefits

Wang Deng-cherng (王登城), an analyst with Yuanta Core Pacific Securities Corp (元大證券), said that both China Airlines and EVA need to maintain 70 percent passenger capacity to break even on Hong Kong flights.

"With current capacity at between 30 percent to 50 percent, they are losing big," Wang said.

The air-cargo business in Asia hasn't risen since the beginning of the US-led invasion of Iraqi.
