Besides being Germany's largest steelmaker and the third-largest in Europe behind Corus Group Plc and Arcelor SA, ThyssenKrupp also has elevator, automotive and machinery units.
The elevator business, which employs 28,000 people, is the world's third largest with sales of about 3.5 billion euros.
Dusseldorf, Germany-based ThyssenKrupp last month returned to a fiscal first-quarter profit and had its first increase in quarterly pretax profit in almost two years because of higher steel prices and increased demand for the metal.
