The market for computer servers is expected to post strong growth across the Asia-Pacific region in the next two years driven by demand from the finance sector and government, a Dataquest study said yesterday.
Next year should see 666,000 servers worth US$5.56 billion shipped across 14 major countries in the region excluding Japan, said the forecast published in The Business Times.
In unit terms, that would be up a robust 9.9 percent; in value, up 3.5 percent.
The two giant markets -- China and India -- will see the highest growth rates in the Asia-Pacific, Dataquest said.
Servers are high-end host computers that allow a multitude of terminals to be connected to them.
The growth is set to continue next year with the region likely to see 722,000 servers worth US$5.69 billion shipped.
"Growth is being driven by strong demand from the Asia-Pacific finance sectors, especially banking," an analyst told the newspaper.
