The TAIEX added 80.41, or 1.8 percent, to close at 4,579.14. For the month, the index rose 9.2 percent, its biggest advance since December. The value of trade was NT$94.5 billion (US$2.7 billion).
Asustek rose NT$1.50, or 2.1 percent, to NT$72. Third-quarter profit at the nation's largest maker of computer circuit-boards fell more than a quarter from a year earlier to NT$2.7 billion.
"Asustek's bottom line beat expectations, though I'm concerned about margin erosion," said Oliver Lee, who manages US$55 million in stocks at Far Eastern Alliance Asset Management Co (遠東大聯投信).
"People expect some rush orders in the fourth quarter, but there may be some serious inventory problems in the first quarter if sales aren't good," Lee said.
Powerchip Semiconductor Corp (力晶半導體) gained NT$0.40, or 3.1 percent, to NT$13.30. Taiwan's No. 3 maker of computer-memory chips said its third-quarter loss narrowed almost three quarters from a year earlier to NT$1.12 billion.
Quanta Computer Inc (廣達電腦) rose NT$2, or 2.9 percent, to NT$70.50. Taiwan's biggest notebook-computer maker said third-quarter profit rose 2 percent from a year earlier to NT$2.91 billion. Quanta forecast sales next year may rise 35 percent from this year.
