Taiwan's leading computer maker, Acer Inc (
Lin Hsien-lang (林顯郎), Acer's president of operations for the greater China area, was quoted by a local Chinese-language newspaper as saying that Acer's desktop PC shipments in the domestic market are seen rising 20 percent to 30 percent next year.

Lin expects falling liquid-crystal display monitor prices to drive PC market growth next year in Taiwan.
Taiwan's entire notebook and desktop PC market is estimated at a total of 1.2 million units this year, of which notebook PCs account for around 400,000 units, he said.
Lin said he expects the notebook PC market in Taiwan to increase to 500,000 units next year. Acer yesterday said profit in the third quarter was NT$523 (US$15 million).
