Local biotech firms predict slow growth

STEADY ONWARD Investors funding the industry are learning not to expect IT-like profits, but, on the flip side, analysts tell them their stake does not hinge on US exports

Currently there are 300 biotechnology companies operating in Taiwan. Of these, 120 have their own research and development capabilities. Eighty percent are small-scale operations with investments of under NT$300 million. Sixty-five percent are based in the Taipei area.
