Nanya Technology may announce profits for Q3

BLOOMBERG , TAIPEI

Nanya Technology Corp (南亞科技), Taiwan's largest maker of high-speed computer-memory chips, may say it turned to a profit in the third quarter as it cut costs and boosted production of chips that sell for higher prices.

The company may say third-quarter profit was NT$1.1 billion (US$33 million), compared with a NT$3.8 billion loss a year ago, according to a Bloomberg News survey of four analysts. Sales more than tripled to NT$7.88 billion, according to monthly sales figures reported earlier. Nanya will report third-quarter earnings tomorrow at 3pm Taipei time.

Nanya Technology is benefiting from Intel Corp's release in January of a chip that speeds operations in computers run on the Pentium4 processor.

These high-speed semiconductors accounted for more than four-fifths of Nanya's output in August.

Sales of double-data-rate memory chips are also surging as Dell Computer Corp and other Nanya customers introduce faster models to try to revive sales amid a slump in the computer industry.
