Sex workers make film
Sex workers in the southern Indian state of Kerala have joined hands to make a film on their plight, a report said yesterday.
The United News of India reported that the eight-minute Malayalam-language short titled "Jwalamukhigal [Volcanos]" was directed by a sex worker and the actors are also prostitutes.
The film depicts a day in the life of a sex worker, Nalini (no surname), who also directed the film.
Nalini said the film focused on the human rights aspect of tens of thousands of women who were forced into the flesh trade to eke out a living.
Nalini and two other sex workers involved in the film, Sarojini and Kunjumol, got training in filmmaking in Thailand from the Global Alliance Against Trafficking in Women based there.
Alcatel signs big deal

Globacom became Nigeria's second major operator in August after winning the bid to compete with the inefficient state-run monopoly NITEL, promising to improve services in this communication-starved west African country.
The newspaper This Day reported here that Globacom on Friday signed the equipment supply contract with Alacatel in Paris to be financed by BNP Paribas of France.
