Stocks rise, led by Nanya Technology; Acer also advances

BLOOMBERG , TAIPEI

Taiwan stocks rose, led by Nanya Technology Corp (南亞科技), after reports that schools are placing more orders for computers ahead of the start of the academic year in September, boosting optimism about a recovery in semiconductor prices in the third quarter.

The TAIEX added 82.98, or 1.6 percent, to 5130.80 as more than eight stocks rose for every one that fell. The total value of trade was NT$71.69 billion (US$2.14 billion). Nanya Technology soared NT$2.10, or 7 percent, to NT$32.10.

"The dynamic random access memory price should continue to rise from the third quarter to the end of the year as PC demand slowly trends upward," said Bill Lin, who manages US$15 million in stocks at United Securities Investment Trust Corp (聯合投信).
