Demand for flat-panel personal computer monitors sold by companies such as Samsung Electronics Co and Dell Computer Corp is slowing after a supply shortage forced prices up, a market researcher said.
Growth probably slowed to 7 percent in the second quarter and will decline to 3 percent in the third quarter, Austin, Texas-based DisplaySearch said in a release.
Sales of flat-panel monitors which use thin film transistor liquid crystal displays totaled a record 7.47 million units in the first quarter, rising 17 percent from the preceding three months and more than threefold from the same period a year ago.
Flat-panel monitor sales rose last year when consumers took advantage of low prices to replace bulky cathode ray tube displays.
Following the decline in prices last year, consumers are also shifting to larger monitors.
