Infineon, which Wednesday said talks with Hynix ended, had been in talks with the South Korean semiconductor company about a possible development and manufacturing alliance. US rival Micron Technology Inc is also in talks with Hynix.
Infineon on Wednesday said talks ended with Hynix about combining their computer memory-chip businesses. All talks with Hynix have ended, Infineon spokeswoman Katja Schlendorf said.
The announcement comes as Hynix Chief Executive Officer Park Chong-sup said he's close to an agreement to sell his company's memory-chip business to Micron Technology.
"Our evaluations led to the conclusion that the synergies we had hoped for could not be easily realized and had a higher risk," Schlendorf said. The negotiations between Hynix and Infineon were in early stages, she said.
