Foreign trade and industry offices and domestic industry leaders in Taiwan urged the newly elected Legislative Yuan to focus on economic issues after Saturday's legislative, county chief and mayoral elections.
Having been in Taiwan for eight years, American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (AmCham) President Richard Henson urged Taiwan's political parties to forgo their differences and concentrate on the economy instead of continuing to "play the economy like politics."
AmCham Executive Director Richard Vuylsteke said that Taiwan is still politicking while China is already devoting itself fully to its economy.
He said that foreign businessmen want to see the "beef" in the government's policies, not political "filler."
Henson said that as the power and influence of the Legislative Yuan grows, politicians should realize that partisan cooperation is the only way to advance on economic issues.
