The China External Trade Development Council (CETRA,
CETRA officials have invited two specialists from the research and development departments of mobile phone manufacturers Motorola and Astro Design to speak on new design and market trends.
The specialist from Motorola will address the development of the wireless market in China and the company's marketing strategies and deployment in Asia.
China has now become the fastest-growing wireless market in recent years and a CETRA report indicates that China has surpassed the US to become the largest market for mobile phones.
At a recent conference on wireless Internet in Singapore, an Ericsson China executive said that the number of cell phone users in China was estimated to exceed 100 million by the middle of this year.
China also has an estimated 22 million Internet users and is expected to cross the 100-million mark in 2004, according to his report.
In Asia as a whole, the number of cellphone users is expected to increase from the current 250 million to 600 million by 2005.
A recent report from Merrill Lynch also points out the rapid development of the wireless market in Asia.
The global market for wireless Internet software, content and commerce will reach US$25 billion by 2005, with more than 80 percent of the 2 billion wireless subscribers living outside of the US, according to the report.
The Astro Design specialist will deliver an address at the symposium on consumer tastes in North America.
