Two First Commercial Bank (第一銀行) employees are missing following a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the bank said last night.
"We tried to contact the two of them since late Tuesday night, but by Wednesday afternoon we still had no word," said First Commercial Bank's international affairs manager, who asked to be only identified as Shu (束), her surname.
Shu identified the two staffers as Chang Mei-ching (張美欽) and Wang Ching-huei (王晴輝).
She said that the two are locally hired staff and not employees assigned from Taiwan.
According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Katherine Chang (張小月) yesterday, there are six Taiwanese who are currently not accounted for in New York City.
Two Taiwanese staff -- Chien Huei-ta (簡慧達) and Li Yang-te (李洋德) -- who work for US companies, are also missing, Chang said.
Five Taiwanese banks, which have their offices in the World Trade Center complex, were evacuated shortly after the attack occurred. First Commercial's office is located on the 78th floor of building number two.
Other Taiwanese banks with offices in the World Trade Center are the Bank of Taiwan (臺灣銀行), the Taipei Bank (台北銀行), the Chang Hwa Commercial Bank (彰化銀行) and the Hua Nan Commercial Bank. (華南銀行).
