Cathay pilots set for big showdown with management

Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd management and pilots were bracing yesterday for disruptive industrial action after last week's breakdown of rostering and pay talks.

Cathay's management and pilots refused to give ground, with each side calling on the other to make the first move, so negotiations could resume.

Pilots have threatened to launch industrial action starting today if Cathay does not meet their demands.

China Airlines, which competes with Cathay on the lucrative Taiwain-to-Hong Kong routes, said it had received notification from Cathay for help in case of possible flight disruption.
